Maybe based on genetics? You're like borderline diabetic with that number. I’m sorry for the negative post, I’m just all confused and scared and nobody on the phone seems to have answers. I’m terrified of needles and of blood tests and that diagnosis would mean every day would turn into hell for me. I’ll give up every food I love, turn everything away from me and work out like a madman if it means I can avoid diagnosis. I have an appointment with a specialist soon and I plan to ask these questions because if they give me 6 months and try again I will do everything in my power to bring that number down to 5.7 or lower.
Every resource says I’m prediabetic so this is both terrifying to me and confusing because they’ve already said I need to use a glucometer yet didn’t explain when during the day or even how to use it. Oh, and for other context which I know is important here, I’m 5’11 and 245 pounds as of today (I’m trying to lose weight, at the time of that test I was 250).
They ONLY ordered the A1C, thyroid and hemoglobin test. I guess my initial question is: am I diabetic? The clinic that called me about these results is a gynecology clinic, not a general physician, but I know they also know the numbers.
Mayo Clinic website said 6.5 or over is diabetic, 6.2 is prediabetic. Did the test, they called back 3 hours later to tell me my A1C was 6.2 and that “as of today, you’re officially diabetic.” Looked into the numbers, my dad’s A1C was 11 (I know, yikes) when diagnosed. So I went to the doctor, they ordered an A1C prior to a surgery I’m getting.
